Lots of good food, nature, waterfalls, and art-making!  It was so great to share two days of teaching, learning, creativity, and art with a wonderful group of people.  Thank you to Hope, Joanne, Peter, Angie, Nikki, and Holley -- and Athena & Derek for hosting our workshop at your home!  And as always, a huge thanks to Hahnemuhle for their beautiful papers.

Woodstock Workshop

At the end of August, I was lucky to be teaching in Woodstock, NY at Sweetheart Gallery, the home and gallery of Norman and Lila Bacon.

The workshop was sponsored and hosted by Bernard and Judi from Galerie BMG. It was a wonderful gathering in the mountains with beautiful weather and excellent food made by Bread Alone plus lots of encaustic painting.

Bernard is friends with the owner of R&F Encaustic Paints so we had lots of supplies, food and great company. Paper was sponsored by Carol Boss at Hahnemuhle. The artwork and painting was inspiring! It was a very successful weekend. Thanks to all!

Elizabeth, Maria, and Kelly

Photos from my photo encaustic workshop at Elizabeth Messina's studio.  It was great meeting and teaching Maria and Kelly, two amazing women who are both Elizabeth's employees.  Elizabeth and I have been friends since college, so it is always nice to reconnect, share art, and create.

Elizabeth and I went to San Francisco Art Institute where we studied with Linda Conner. Elizabeth has published two books, The Luminous Portrait and The Silver Lining. Her work can be seen on Kissthegroom.com. She has an amazing career and publishes work all the time in magazines! I absolutely love spending time with her. She has shared so many important values and creative inspiration with me! My encaustics and her photographs just are a perfect match!

Joshua Tree - Part 1

Revival in the Desert!  Photos from my workshop in Joshua Tree California, organized by LUZ Studios.  We spent the weekend at the gorgeous Saddleback Oasis, a home we rented from an amazing woman named Sati through Air B&B.  We kicked off the weekend with a cocktail party Friday night.  My friend Tawnja (Ricochet Vintage) cooked us a delicious group meal on Saturday with lots of fresh ingredients from the farmer’s market.   Good food, socializing with amazing artists, and the beautiful desert– just what we needed for a weekend full of inspiration.

Tawnja & Ricochet

Tawnja owns Ricochet Vintage Wears in Joshua Tree California.  Everything about TQueen spells art, the way she moves, her clothes and her lifestyle.  She is the most beautiful and resilient loving person.  She exudes wisdom and lives her life in honesty and with passion.  You can see it in her store.  She is a magpie with a hawk's eye, collector of amazing things. She combines the knowledge of good stuff with creative thinking, always loving the story behind each and every object, photograph or record album.  Her pure love of life is seen in each of these photographs of her store.  It should be a museum of everything kool and fun that we have in life!

Tawnja has been my friend since 1989.  We met when she rode past me on her vintage bicycle on Telegraph Ave in Oakland.  We had both recently shaved our heads.  We had a mutual street musician friend named Christopher-  we called out her name and she stopped her bike and came home with us.  The next day we packed up my bags and I moved in with her! Tawnja has taught me more about how to be a good person, live a full life and love completely each and every moment of my life.  She has gifted me in many ways.  I love this store and I love Tawnja! Joshua Tree is an amazing place - go visit!
